Koch reconciles monthly customer invoices for gas pipeline transactions against internal systems of record. On a rolling basis, Koch receives monthly invoices from companies who they buy and sell natural gas from during the month. Invoices for the pipeline companies can be between 10 and 100+ pages. Traditionally, an employee must reconcile the amount on the invoice with the internally recorded in their Energy Trade and Risk Management System (ETRM). If the invoice total and the deal record in Endur match, no reconciliation is needed. If they do not match, then the employee must manually find and settle the discrepancy. The discrepancy could be in the invoice or an internal system.

Emerson manually extracts remittance information from emails and attachments and maps it to a spreadsheet (.csv) upload template that will be uploaded to their JP Morgan system, which is designed to match cash receivables (payments received) with remittance information. This is a highly time consuming, error-prone process and the reliance on manual methods drives higher instances of mismatched payments and discrepancies.
